Description

This is a perspective on telecommunications technology diffusion in Nigeria and the role of regulation.

The pace of advancement in technology in the wireless telecommunications industry has been such that it is difficult for regulators to keep up with the trend. Regulators in different climes have varied resource pools to pick from and those in laggard zones are worst hit. I have observed the diffusion of technology in laggard zone nations and have also pondered how the regulatory framework has affected the speed with which new designs and products are available to the consumers.

The book explores what role if any the regulatory environment in such climes can play to ensure that scarce national resources required to provide telecommunications services (frequency spectrum, land rights of way) are utilized efficiently so that the consumer gets the best available products and services as technology advances at the best price.

The style of writing will be simple and maybe pedestrian as I seek to engage readers who are not necessarily lawyers, economists or policy makers but who make up the electorate that produces those in government (democratic) who in turn outsource regulation to unelected professionals that we all wish to believe are working for the public good and not those of the investors.
